[Solved] OO 4.1.0 on Mac Bone Ten ten.6.8

Issues installing under the Mac OSX - X11 - Aqua

[Solved] OO 4.1.0 on Mac Bone 10 ten.half dozen.viii

After receiving notification of the availability of Open up Role iv.ane.0, in which information technology was stated that the update was suitable for Mac Os X 10.3 onwards, I downloaded the relevant file … noting that information technology stated:
"Download Apache OpenOffice four.1.0
Click here to download (hosted by Sourceforge.net) for:
Mac Bone X (ten.six or older) and English (British) | ~159 MByte | Released: 2014-Apr-29".

Nevertheless when I attempted to run the instal, a message was displayed indicating that this could not proceed equally my version of Mac Os Ten was not suitable - I run Os X 10.six.viii.

I hope that the erroneous message will by at present have been corrected.

OO four.one does _not_ piece of work on Mac ten.6.eight. You need to return to 4.0.1; delight download it once again from this link:

http://sourceforge.internet/projects/openoff ... k/download

(look five seconds for the download to start after you click the link)

Do does this mean that Snow Leopard is no longer supported? Is 4.0.1 the end of the line?

Information technology seems rather odd that a Java awarding should be so dependent on operating organization version.

In any case, if 4.0.1 is the end of the line, it would be squeamish if I didn't run across messages telling me to upgrade.

Unless you have a rather old Mac, you lot tin can showtime upgrade to Mavericks (10.9); it's free from Apple. And so you can install AOO releases beyond 4.one.0. If you can't/don't upgrade Bone X, so you're probably stuck until you buy new hardware. Check Mac resources on the web if you need help determining if you can upgrade, or if you need assistance installing Mavericks.

If this answered your question please go to your offset post utilise the Edit button and add [Solved] to the start of the title. You can select the green checkmark icon at the aforementioned time.

It seems rather odd that a Java awarding should exist so dependent on operating system version.

In any example, if 4.0.1 is the end of the line, it would exist prissy if I didn't meet letters telling me to upgrade.

But some sections of OpenOffice employ Coffee.

From the release notes at

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/dis ... ease+Notes

"Note: Mac users should be aware that with this release Apache OpenOffice is a 64-bit awarding and requires Mac OSX ten.7 or above."

Information technology seems rather odd that a Java awarding should exist and then dependent on operating organisation version.

Apache OpenOffice is not a Java application.

In any example, if 4.0.1 is the finish of the line, information technology would be nice if I didn't see messages telling me to upgrade.

Both the release notes (meet in a higher place) and the organisation requirements,

http://world wide web.openoffice.org/dev_docs/sour ... aoo41.html

, country that Mac OS X x.vii (Lion) or higher is required.

Although my hardware can run Lion, Lion is a sus scrofa (compared to Snow Leopard) and even if it wasn't I *hate* the interface changes. Much of that was stock-still in Mountain King of beasts, just my hardware can't run that.

I've been planning to upgrade for a while at present, merely honestly, with an SSD and maxed out RAM my MacBook Pro (2,i) is still more than adequate. I am besides one of the few people who seems to like a 17" laptop whatsoever more, and I am non terribly interested in shelling out for a new motorcar until I admittedly have to if information technology means downgrading to a xv" screen.

I've got to say that I'm really lamentable that only when Open Role starts to become truly usable I can't run the latest version any more.

I've got to say that I'thousand really sad that only when Open up Office starts to get truly usable I can't run the latest version whatever more.

So just keep using the version of Chop-chop OpenOffice that you lot have. Information technology is much more recent than your estimator and operating organization. I am happy using an older version on my second computer, a MacBook running Snow Leopard.

I use Snow Leopard considering I *prefer* it, not because I like running old software. Snow Leopard is lite and fast, faster than anything that came before it and faster than anything that has come since. I really don't like what happened with the iOS-ification of Os/Ten and I accept yet to detect a single feature in newer versions that makes me desire to upgrade.

Open Function, on the other hand, has seen substantial improvements in every release and Information technology has only been rather recently that I've considered it truly usable (although I have been using it since information technology was called Star Office...)

If this is really the stop, *PLEASE* discover a style to stop the encarmine annoying popular-ups that proceed telling me to upgrade.

On the carte du jour bar click on 'OpenOffice'
Click on 'Preferences'
In the window that opens go to OpenOffice/Online Updates

I wonder about this.
I take Bone ten.6.8 on my MacBook Pro from 2009 and I always thought this is a 64 Bit motorcar, I still call back it.
So I don't sympathise why OO 4.1 doesn't run on information technology, both 64 Bit.
Why?

Why?

Because AOO four.one requires Os 10 ver.10.7 or newer. It won't run on older versions of OS X.

Didn't y'all understand my reply?
AOO 4.one requires OS X ver.x.7 or newer. The operating system requirement is independent from it beingness a 64 bit app. Many electric current applications for Macs require Bone X ver.vii or newer.

No, I didn't empathize your respond because I read in the General Remarks of the AOO 4.i Release notes this sentence:

Note: Mac users should be aware that with this release Apache OpenOffice is a 64-chip awarding and requires Mac OSX 10.7 or above.

I read this like this: Equally it is a 64-bit awarding it requires Mac OS 10.7. This is the matter I don't empathise. Os 10.half-dozen is 64-scrap besides, I don't empathize the logic in this remark.

The underlying routines in the earlier operating organisation don't conform the current version of OpenOffice. If you lot have knowledge of Mac OSes, the OpenOffice software source code is available and you might patch it to accommodate your operating system. I'g certain there will exist OpenOffice developer help available should you lot make up one's mind to exercise this.
